1절) 시온의 영광이 빛나는 아침 어둡던 이 땅이 밝아오네 슬픔과 애통이 기쁨이 되니

시온의 영광이 비쳐오네

2절) 시온의 영광이 빛나는 아침 매였던 종들이 돌아오네 오래 전 선지자 꿈꾸던 복을

 만민이 다같이 누리겠네

3절) 보아라 광야에 화초가 피고 말랐던 시냇물 흘러오네 이 산과 저 산이 마주쳐 울려

 주 예수 은총을 찬송하네

4절) 땅들아 바다야 많은 섬들아 찬양을 주님께 드리어라 싸움과 죄악의 참혹한 땅에

           찬송이 하늘에 사무치네   아멘

▶작사 :토마스 헤스팅즈(1784-1872) - 미국 코네티컷주 워싱턴 출생.
▶작곡 :로웰 메이슨(1792-1872) - 미국 출생. 음악 박사겸 지휘자.

▶가사강해 :
웅장하고도 엄숙한 분위기가 부르는 이의 가슴을 시종 압도하는  찬송시이다.  

예수의부활로 말미암아 이미 천국의 실재가 성도들에게 개방되었다. 따라서 본문은 현재  시제로 일관되고 있다.

1절은 천상의 영광스러운 광채가 이 땅의 온갖 어둠들을  밀어내는 장면을 시각적으로 포착하였고,

2절은 구속받은 성도의 자유를 고대 이스라엘의 출애굽 사건과 연관시켜 표현하고 있다. 그리고

3절에 가서 시인은 그리스도의 구속  사건을 통해 나타나는 이적적 역사(役事)들을

'광야에 화초가 피고 말랐던 시냇물이  흐른다'는 탁월한 비유로 설명하였고,

4절은 전(全) 우주적 찬양을 묘사하고 있다.
